Denise and Richard Widstrom's Story

Denise and Richard have known each other for the past twenty years, and in April of 2008 they celebrated their closeness by getting married by the justice of the peace. Who would have known when they met each other at that social gathering so many years ago, that one day they would be husband and wife? Now they are a family of seven, and four of their five children remain in the home. Together they enjoy playing games, being outdoors, watching movies, drawing, and cooking.

Denise and Richard moved to Buffalo two years ago and had previously lived in Monticello for one year. Richard lost his job three years ago and has struggled with medical issues since that time. He has undergone multiple shoulder surgeries and is dealing with complications due to blood clots in his legs. This prevents him from working outside the home because of constant pain and immobility. This leaves the family on a single income. Reanna, their seventeen year old daughter, also suffers from mild retardation and other severe disabilities. Denise works at Hammer Residents as an Assistant Program Manager for the last eight years and also works Part time as Special Education Paraprofessional and as substitute for local school districts.

Their family is eagerly awaiting a home location and is working diligently on homework projects and is on the site as time and health allow. We are proud to say that they have successfully completed all of the homeowner education requirements in spring of 2009.
