"It's nice to have the opportunity to help in the community, to work outside and to work with your hands." This statement was commonly shared by the employees from ING Direct in St. Cloud who recently volunteered at Central MN Habitat for Humanity's site on 14th Street North. All of these employees are new to ING which according to their policy means that they must volunteer four hours within their first hundred days. After that, employees have the option of volunteering four hours per month all of which are during their paid time. All the employees appreciate this policy and enjoy the opportunity to serve in the community. Many had heard of Habitat before and were interested in helping, but hadn't had the chance to get involved. Katherine shared, "I haven't volunteered with Habitat before, but I wanted to. This gave me the opportunity to give back to the community." ING's volunteer policy gave them the opportunity to get connected with Habitat and start serving, and serve they did!
There were two groups that came out on separate days to the site during March. The site is a foreclosed home that Habitat is fixing up to serve a partner family. Both groups were blessed by beautiful spring weather. One group replaced all the windows in one day while the other started the siding on the house. Both jobs were very rewarding for the new volunteers. "It's good to do something different and learn a new skill. You can see the effects immediately," said Alecia. As volunteers learned more about how Habitat works with partner families, Brent shared, "It's nice to know that I'm directly helping a family and impacting them for a long time."
ING is an ongoing partner with Habitat and continues to send employees to our sites. We at Central MN Habitat for Humanity want to thank ING and their employees for caring about the community and investing many volunteer hours through us.
