Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity is seeking community members to be on the Family Advocates. Each member/small group is paired up to support (i.e. mentor/advocate/friend) an individual or family that has been selected by CMHFH Staff and Board of Directors as a homeowner. The advocates support their individuals or families from the start of their program to 1 year after home closing.
Responsibilities
-Advertise and recruit for informational meeting on how to become a homeowner.
-Conduct semi-monthly phone calls and monthly face-to-face visits with your Partner Family with the purpose of assessing their needs and resources.
-Connect your Partner Family to the resources available in their community to meet their needs.
-Help your Partner Family set goals and encourage their achievements.
-Continue to remind your Partner Family of upcoming Homeowner Educational meetings.
-Attend bi-monthly committee meetings.
-Submit family report to Family Support Chair and/or Family Services Coordinator.
-Plan for refreshments for the Home Dedication of your Partner Family.
Skill Qualifications
-Ability to ensure the confidentiality of Partner Families.
-To be culturally diverse and compassionate.
-Enjoy working with a variety of people.
-Knowledge of resources that can be utilized in the four county areas: Stearns, Benton, Sherburne and Wright.
-To learn and understand the Mission of CMHFH and to represent us in the community.
-Ability to speak multiple languages preferred, but not required.
Time Commitment
2-3 year commitment which consists of: monthly meetings with your Partner Family and 6 committee meetings per year and other events (Ribbon Cutting, Ground Breaking, Dedication, Home Closing and Meet & Greet new Partner Families).
Age Requirements
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Training & Supervision
Supervision provided by Family Services Coordinator.
