Kyle Hanson's Story

A three-bedroom apartment can be very crowded for a family of four, especially when one of the children has numerous pieces of medical equipment. Kyle Hanson and his three children make this work because it's all that he can afford, until he heard from a friend who used to volunteer with Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity.

Kyle is the single father of Erin and Alexandra, six year old twins and Zakariah who is five years old. Currently, Erin and Zakariah share a room due to Alexandra's special needs which require plenty of room for her medical equipment. We asked Kyle what went through his mind when he found out that he was going to be a Habitat homeowner, he said, "I was very happy and filled with hope for the future. My kids were also excited about the possibility to have their own rooms and already began asking for a dog."

Kyle is currently working on his sweat equity by helping out the CMHFH office with mailings (which is amazingly helpful because of his work experience), baking cookies for various events and attending homeownership classes.

They truly love each other, but Kyle believes that the will all enjoy their privacy. Zakariah will be able to spread out his boy toys without irritating his sister, Kyle will have more space for his computer and Alexandra can bring home her physical therapy equipment and even have a backyard in which she can ride her specially-adapted tricycle.

We are excited for their partnership and eagerly await the day where they all can ride their bikes together in the backyard.
